Rectification
Rectification, or rounding of the cutting edge, is a method of modifying the cutting edge of a tool that increases the service life of both coated and uncoated tools.
Cutting edge before grinding
The grinding (rounding) of the cutting edge is a special treatment performed on the cutting edge and tool surface after grinding and before coating.
Cutting edge after rectification
After grinding, burrs, micro-chips, and traces of the grinding wheel remain on the cutting edges, which weaken the cutting edge itself. Rectification — controlled grinding and polishing with special abrasives — removes these irregularities and rounds the cutting edges.
This process significantly improves the surface quality of the tool before coating and enhances coating adhesion. The tool surface can also be polished to a mirror finish after grinding.
Equipment: STATON s.r.o. uses OTEC machines from Germany for cutting edge rectification.
